Dear Editor,
It is not often that I read an editorial which is as blunt as
yours entitled 'Tain Turmoil' (2005.11.28). While reading it, I
immediately sensed the level of frustration that I am sure is
shared by every rational Guyanese.
Most Guyanese believe that we have an out-of-control crime
situation, and that the police have neither the will nor the
competence to bring that under control.
But we cannot lay the blame solely on the Guyana Police
Force. Ultimate responsibility lies, not with the Police; not
with the Honourable Minister of Home Affairs; and no, not with
the President.
It is the voters of this country who have the power to
control crime.
Our crime situation, unfortunately, is extremely unlikely to
improve until we have regime change. And we will have that in
2006.
Yours faithfully,
Max Mohamed
