Man remanded over buggery of schoolgirl Wednesday, November 16th 2005
After
remand… Principal
Magistrate Krishendat Persaud had previously remanded Delmar
Peters, 40, of Lot 40 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, to
prison, pending a probation report on the safety of the victim. However,
the accused secured the grant after Probation and Welfare Officer
Clement Brusche reported that Peters was interdicted from duty since
February 11, to await the outcome of the case. The
report said, as well, that the victim is no longer at the same
educational institution but is attending a private school and there is
nothing to suggest she would be jeopardised. Before
Brusche spoke, Defence Counsel John Persaud had claimed publication of
his name can be prejudicial to his client’s character. Peters
has not been required to plea to the indictable charge which said he
sodomised the 14-year-old girl last February 1. The
allegation against the Guyana School of Agriculture graduate said he
committed the offence in a bus shed at Canje, also in Berbice, after
he had given the student lessons. The
case has now been adjourned to December 12.
